In addition to managing Survey construction and operations, University of Chicago scientists have taken on much of the work of developing, testing, and maintaining the software to process and analyze the spectroscopic data from the Sky Survey. By the end of the project, the Survey will have obtained and processed spectroscopic observations of approximately one million galaxies and one hundred thousand quasars. In addition, the spectroscopic survey will observe many stars, as well as other interesting objects discovered in the photometric survey.
